Discord
A Discord Channel posts alerts to one channel on your Discord server, through a webhook: an address Discord gives you that posts to that channel. You make the webhook in Discord, then paste its URL into uup.
Making the webhook in Discord
Section titled “Making the webhook in Discord”You need the Manage Webhooks permission on the server, as its owner and admins have.
- In Discord, hover over the channel alerts should post to and press its gear, Edit Channel.
- Open Integrations, then Webhooks, and press New Webhook.
- Discord names the new webhook for you. Open it to give it a name such as “uup”, and check that it posts to the right channel.
- Press Copy Webhook URL.
The URL starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. Anybody who has it can post to the channel, so keep it where you keep passwords.
The Discord help link in the dashboard opens Discord’s own page about webhooks.
Adding it to uup
Section titled “Adding it to uup”- In Project settings, open the Channels tab and press Add a Channel.
- Choose Discord, then Continue with Discord.
- Give the Channel a Name, such as the Discord channel’s own, “#ops”.
- Paste the URL into Webhook URL.
- Press Send test and add.
We post a test message to the channel first, and the dialog shows what it says. The Channel is added only once Discord accepts it. When Discord turns it down, the dialog says why and nothing is saved: check the URL, then press Try again.
Once it is added, add it to a Notification rule so alerts reach it. See Notification rules.
Changing the channel
Section titled “Changing the channel”A Discord Channel’s URL cannot be changed. To post to another Discord channel, make a webhook there and add a new Channel with its URL.
If the webhook is deleted in Discord, Discord refuses our messages, and the Channel is turned off after a while. See When a Channel is turned off.
