Inbox

The Inbox is the Project’s own Channel, inside the dashboard. It lists what we told the Project’s people: outages, recoveries, warnings and the rest. Every Project has one Inbox. It cannot be renamed, turned off or deleted, and it never fails to receive.

The Inbox gets what your Notification rules send it, like any other Channel. The Default rule sends it everything. A rule that leaves the Inbox out sends it nothing: see Notification rules.

When no rule sends anything to the Inbox, it says No rule sends anything here. Add the Inbox to a rule, under Send to, to see alerts in the dashboard.

One entry arrives whatever your rules say: the news that a Channel or a Webhook was turned off. See When a Channel is turned off.

The bell sits at the top of every page of the Project. A dot on it means there are entries you have not read. While the dashboard is open, a new entry also shows for a moment in the corner.

Press the bell to see the newest entries, under the tabs All, Unread and Down. Opening an entry marks it read, and Mark all as read marks them all.

Notifications, in the sidebar, is the whole Inbox for the last 90 days, newest first. Its tabs are All, Unread, Down, Recovered and Paused, each with how many entries it holds, and Search Monitors finds the entries about one Monitor. The Monitors that are down right now are listed above the entries.

Reminders about an outage are folded under the entry that opened it, and its recovery is an entry of its own. On an entry whose outage is still open, Acknowledge and Open Incident appear when you point at it.

Everyone who can reach the Project sees its Inbox. What is read is your own: marking an entry read does not mark it for anyone else.

The Inbox never leaves the dashboard, so it never wakes anyone. To be woken by an outage, add a Channel that reaches you, such as email or a phone, to a rule.
