Telegram

A Telegram Channel sends alerts to one Telegram chat: a group, or a chat between you and our bot. There is nothing to paste. You add our bot to the chat through a link from the dashboard, and that link is how we know which chat is yours.

  1. In Project settings, open the Channels tab and press Add a Channel.
  2. Choose Telegram, then Continue with Telegram.
  3. Give the Channel a Name, such as “On call”, and press Get the links.

The dialog then shows two links, each with Open in Telegram and a copy of the link to send to somebody else:

  • A group: Telegram asks which group to add the bot to. Pick it, and the bot joins.
  • Just you: Telegram opens a chat with the bot. Press Start.

You need to be allowed to add members to a group to add the bot to it.

The dialog waits while you do this, and says so once the bot is in. The Channel is then ready, and the bot says in the chat which Project it now sends alerts from. Add the Channel to a Notification rule so alerts reach it. See Notification rules.

The links work for 15 minutes, and each one adds the bot once. After that, the dialog says the links have expired: press Make new links.

If you closed the dialog before the bot joined, the Channel waits on the Channels tab. Open its menu and choose Add the bot for new links. The old ones stop working.

A link that has expired, or was used already, gets this answer from the bot: “This link has expired. Make a new one in your uup dashboard.”

The bot only sends alerts. It answers anything else said to it with: “I only send alerts. Add me from your uup dashboard.”

To stop alerts reaching the chat, remove the bot from the group, or block it in a chat with you alone. Telegram then refuses our messages, and the Channel is turned off after a while. See When a Channel is turned off. To quiet it for a while instead, choose Turn off in the Channel’s menu.
