An email Channel sends each alert to a list of up to 10 addresses. Everyone on the list gets their own copy, so nobody sees who else is on it.
Adding an email Channel
Section titled “Adding an email Channel”- In Project settings, open the Channels tab and press Add a Channel.
- Choose Email, then Continue with Email.
- Give the Channel a Name, such as “On call”.
- Under Email addresses, type an address and press Enter. To add several at once, paste them, separated by commas or new lines.
- Press Add Channel.
The Channel works as soon as it is added: nothing is sent to prove the addresses first. It gets alerts once a Notification rule sends to it, so add it to a rule next. See Notification rules.
For more addresses than one Channel holds, add another email Channel. An address on several email Channels still gets one email for each alert.
To change the name or the list later, open the Channel’s menu on the Channels tab and choose Edit. Send test in the same menu sends a test email to every address that can receive.
What a new address is told
Section titled “What a new address is told”Anyone can type an address, so we tell its owner. The first time an address is added to an email Channel in your Organization, it gets one email: who added it, to which Project and Channel, and what it will hear about. That email carries the same Stop these emails link every alert carries.
Addresses of your Organization’s own members are not sent this email.
Stopping the emails
Section titled “Stopping the emails”Every alert email ends with a Stop these emails link, and mail apps show their own unsubscribe button beside it. Either one stops alert emails to that one address, from every Channel of your Organization. Marking an alert email as spam does the same. See The links in an alert for how the link works and how to undo it.
On the Channel, such an address stays on the list and says Stopped: they asked not to get these emails. Nobody in your Organization can undo it, and removing the address and adding it again does not change it. Only the person behind the address can, from the same link.
When an address bounces
Section titled “When an address bounces”An address that does not exist, or a mailbox that refuses our mail for good, bounces. We count each bounce against that address alone. After 10 bounces in a row, spread over at least 1 day, the address is turned off, and the rest of the list keeps getting every email.
The address then says Turned off on the Channel. Once it can receive again, choose Edit and press Turn on beside it. See When a Channel is turned off.
Allowing our emails through
Section titled “Allowing our emails through”Alert emails come from alerts@alerts.uup.dev, under the name You Up?. If your mail filters hold back mail from unknown senders, add that address to your allowed senders, so an outage alert never waits in a spam folder.
The test email and the email to a new address come from the same address.
